Arrow Energy coal seam gas pipeline - Help needed

Image_24-09-2016_at_3.51_PM.jpg

Arrow Energy is planning a 500 km long pressurised coal seam gas pipeline from Moranbah to Gladstone. It will affect at least 233 properties and 150 landowners. An easement 40m wide (20 sq. km) would be cleared. The public has until October 4th to make a submission on this environmental authority application (EA).

We need your help to contact all the affected landholders before the closing date. On Tuesday 27 September we need some volunteers from 9:00am-3:00pm to assist in mailing or calling the 150 landholders to provide this information.

Contact Patricia Julien or Peter McCallum at 4953 0808 or email [email protected]. Thank you!

In Queensland, a company must apply for an EA to undertake industrial, resource or intensive agricultural activities with the potential to release contaminants into the environment.

Gas pipelines can fail and can cause major damage resulting from corrosion, weld failures, external damage and incorrect operation. Based on experience it is expected there would be 60 incidents each year along this 400km pipeline.

This pipeline would be buried, so significant damage could occur groundwater or to waterways before a leak is detected and fixed. Leakage of methane to the atmosphere could also be significant. Fires causing loss of crops and natural vegetation are also a risk from a leaking gas pipeline.

Most affected landholders would not even be aware of their opportunity to comment on this EA. So we are preparing information relevant to this EA for landholders and others to send in submissions.
