Taking our campaign to the top!
One of the passionate volunteers of Stop Adani Mackay took our message to Canberra this week. Having lived through some of the darker days of the regions Boom and Bust, Clare Johnston told our federal politicians and senators that people in Mackay want a brighter future – not more coal.
Clare spent three days in Canberra in meetings with politicians. Along with other regional locals, Clare explained to politicians that we need a diverse economy and banking on a single project was not going to provide Central Queensland with a sustainable long term future.
Clare believes that we need to be urgently seeking out alternatives that will lead to a just transition away from industries that damage our climate and threaten the health of the Great Barrier Reef.
“The most important thing I saw was that even at the top levels in parliament house, they want to hear our stories,” Clare said.
