The melaleuca or tea tree swamps are a special and unique ecosystem, once prevalent in Mackay.
The Kommo Teora trail on Keely's Road is a short interpretive walk that highlights the features of these swamps, and please join us if you want to learn more about the biology and life forms in this special area.
These areas are particularily treasured by members of Mackay Conservation Group because of the role of our group in ensuring their preservation in the mid 1980s.
The swamps support a great deal of life, including mosquitos! Please bring mosquito repellent (we will as well), as well as the usual hats and drinking water. It is the best time of year to see the swamps, when they have water in them, but also when we can expect mosquitos.
This walk will around one hour.
