Our popular Beautiful Walks are back on for 2019! Join us as we learn more about Mackay’s iconic Town Beach on Sunday May 26, from 2pm - 4pm.
This year, we have changed the program to allow our members to have more of an organising role in these events. Our dedicated Beautiful Walks volunteer team for May have organised the Town Beach walk and it’s set to be a fun and inspiring day.
Mackay’s Town Beach has a fascinating history of transformation. From tidal swells and cyclones, the beach has been completely reshaped from what it was only a few decades ago. The beach is also alive with biodiversity. Shorebirds follow the tides, feeding on crustaceans and fish, and tiny soldier crabs scuttle along the sand in large groups.
Further along, mangroves are scattered on the dunes and provide habitat for crabs, fish and mudskippers. Joining us will be three knowledgable guest speakers: Patricia Julien who will speak on the geographical history of the area, Fay Griffin from Turtle Watch and Jonathan Dykyj from Mackay Reginal Council.
Our Beautiful Walks are free and bookings will be available online soon. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org
