Join us to gather in calling on the Queensland Government to completely reject the Clive Palmer-owned Central Queensland Coal Project.
The proposed Central Queensland Coal Project would be built just 10km from The Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
Scientists, environmentalists and nearby residents are concerned the project will cause irreparable damage to surrounding ecosystems and wildlife including Queensland's largest fish habitat, dugongs, turtles, dolphins, koalas, gliders, rare birdlife and the Great Barrier Reef itself. The proposal shows open-cut coal mines straddling both sides of the Bruce Highway near Ogmore and the Styx River.
The Independent Expert Scientific Committee which reviewed the proposal had “major concerns” of “very significant” risks.
We will gather at Bluewater Quay to voice community concerns about the project, and then walk along the Forgan Bridge to display our messages of concern to the public, and raise awareness.
Please bring a banner or sign if you can.
Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
*UPDATE: Due to more RSVP's than expected and lack of space to safely social distance in front of the office of Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert, Mackay Conservation Group will privately deliver a letter to Ms Gilbert's office the day before, and we will start the rally at Bluewater Quay at 9am on Thursday.
