What are you doing to celebrate Earth Hour this Saturday 28 March? Millions of people around the world will be turning off their lights for an hour to symbolise the need for urgent action on climate change. Join us at the Mackay Environment Centre (156 Wood Street) from 6pm. Please bring a plate of food to share and if possible include as many local ingredients as possible!
The theme for Earth Hour this year is the impact of climate change on food production. Growing your own food and sourcing local food products provides resilience against the inevitable decrease in agricultural production that we will see as we experience extreme weather events and changing seasons.
Here at MCG we’ve been doing a bit of food cultivating of our own, and now have an edible garden out the back full of tropical greens at the back for staff and volunteers. We’d love to give you a tour of our productive patch before we eat on Saturday.
