MCG would like to invite you to an exclusive members-only meeting on Tuesday 10 November at 7pm to hear from economist Andrew Buckwell about his review of the Urannah Dam proposal.
Mackay Conservation Group has engaged economist Andrew Buckwell to review the Preliminary Business Case for Urannah Dam. The results are astonishing. Mr Buckwell has found that the proponents have cherry picked economic benefits, counted as savings activities that government has not committed to and ignored costs, such as increased sediment flows to the reef. He has also identified many other issues that paint a less than rosy picture of this project.
MCG will release Mr Buckwell's review to the public following the meeting.
Please join us for this special meeting, in person at the Mackay Environment Centre to find out why this project makes as little economic sense as it does ecologically. If you can't make it to the Environment Centre, you can attend via Zoom.
Following the presentation, Mackay Conservation Group will hold our Annual General Meeting, which all members can attend.
Andrew Buckwell is a Research Fellow at Griffith Business School with 5 years' experience as an applied environmental economist. He has significant experience in field research design, execution and analysis, and consulting – specialising in social benefit cost and policy analysis. He also teaches under-graduate and Masters students in environmental and resource economics.
