We're seeking a Beautiful Walks Organiser

Mackay Conservation Group has secured a small grant from Mackay Regional Council to continue our highly successful Beautiful Walks program. Beautiful Walks showcases the local environment in the Mackay area through guided walks that take place every one - two months. We are looking for an event co-ordinator to work for 30 hours each month to organise, promote and evaluate five Beautiful Walk events between July - December.


Location: Mackay, Queensland

Term: 6 month part-time contract, 30 June 2015 - 31 December 2015

Hours:  30 hours per month (to be worked per arrangements flexible in agreement with the Co-ordinator)

Rate: $28.80 per hour

Reports to: Mackay Conservation Group Co-ordinator

The position will be based from the Mackay Environment Centre, 156 Wood St. Mackay.

Essential requirements of the role:

  • Knowledge of the local Mackay area, particularly the natural environment
  • Experience with organising successful events
  • Understanding of media, including social media
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work well in small teams
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to network with stakeholders
  • Ability to work with volunteers
  • Drivers licence

Key Duties:

  • Organise five Beautiful Walks events between June – December 2015 (exact dates to be determined) including:
  • Researching appropriate locations for the walks
  • Obtaining any necessary permissions
  • Sourcing local expert speakers to guide the walks
  • Promoting the event to maximise attendance, including in the local media and through social media
  • Evaluating the success of each walk
  • Documenting the walk including on the MCG website, Facebook page and through Twitter
  • Entering data of walk participants
