Hundreds of Central Queenslanders told us just what they thought about coal and climate in our massive 2025 Central Queensland (CQ) Survey. We partnered with Lock the Gate Queensland and Whitsunday Conservation Council to doorknock neighbourhoods from Airlie Beach to Rockhampton, and surveyed people at markets, stalls and online to get as many voices as possible.
What locals had to say was powerful, but not surprising.
Central Queenslanders are worried about climate impacts and support plans to take real climate action.
Locals overwhelmingly supported big coal and gas polluters cutting their emissions, preventing new coal expansions. They also want to see plans that diversify our economy away from fossil fuels, and that support our workers at the same time.
