Digging Deeper

Queenslanders are lucky enough to be home to some of the biggest and oldest natural wonders of the world like the Great Barrier Reef and ancient Gondwanan forests.

Unfortunately, we’re also home to some of the biggest coal mine expansions in the world.

Billionaire coal mining companies like BHP, Glencore and Whitehaven are pushing governments for approvals for mammoth coal expansions in Queensland that would dig up 5 billion more tonnes of coal and add 13 billion more tonnes of climate pollution to our already heating atmosphere.

Meanwhile - Queenslanders have been hit with some of the biggest and worst floods ever recorded. Communities have to struggle to recover and are hit with huge costs and increasing insurance premiums - impacts that are made worse by digging and burning coal.

Queenslanders can’t afford 13 billion tonnes more climate pollution, all for the profits of Billionaire polluters.

Join our event Digging Deeper to learn about the biggest coal expansions coming up in Queensland and join the action to stop them.

Queensland’s coal expansions would worsen the already intensifying extreme weather damaging Qld communities. These expansions would blow out Qld and Australian climate targets that are essential if we want a safe climate for future generations.

These coal expansions would also drain billions of litres of groundwater into final voids for eternity and could be the nail in the coffin for precious wildlife refuges in the Bowen Basin which have already been significantly damaged.
