1. Why Renewables
Renewable energy is key to a sustainable future and climate. Solar, wind, and other renewables reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and protecting natural ecosystems. Beyond environmental benefits, renewables bring economic advantages—creating long-term jobs in construction, maintenance, and energy production. Switching to renewables is important, but it hasn’t been easy. Some projects have faced challenges, and it’s important to make sure the transition works well for everyone. By talking about both the benefits and the difficulties, we can help make sure renewable energy is done the right way.
2. Major Renewable Projects in our Region
- Collinsville Green Energy Hub (wind and solar)
- Proserpine Wind Farm
- Capricornia Energy Hub (Eungella)
3. Challenges of the Renewable Roll Out
Switching to renewable energy isn’t always smooth. Some projects have run into problems like planned for valued natural areas, concerns and opposal from local communities, and a lack of properly planned infrastructure to connect new energy to the grid. It’s important that renewable projects are planned well, respect the environment, and benefit local people. By learning from past challenges, we can improve how renewables are rolled out in the future.
There has also been a lot of misinformation and questions around the roll out of renewables. There's been uncertainty about recyclability, lifecycles and true environmental benefit or impacts of renewable energy projects. This can make it hard to know what the real pros and cons are of renewables and what we should stand on them - either all together, or by each project.
4. Have Your Say
As a conservation group, we know the role of renewables is crucial, BUT they need to be done right. We want to hear from you what questions you have about renewable energy, the projects and environmental impacts. Share your thoughts, concerns or ideas about renewable projects in the suggestion box. Your input will help shape our work on renewable energy.
We'll be expanding on renewable project information soon - stay tuned!
